WILL SMITH  is thinking of a career change. Rumor has it that Will Smith has been seriously thinking about a career in politics.

Will’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith told press, “Will is thinking about going into politics. He once said he could imagine becoming a US president. He wasn’t joking; he was quite serious about it.”

It’s all part of leaving a legacy for posterity, says Jada.  “Will and I want to leave traces on this planet – and with that I mean more important traces than just films.”

“Michael Jackson’s This Is It” pulled in $101 million worldwide in its first five days, and distributor Sony is extending the farewell performance film beyond its planned two-week run.

The film was the No. 1 Halloween thriller domestically with a $21.3 million opening weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The previous weekend’s No. 1 movie, Paramount’s low-budget horror sensation “Paranormal Activity,” slipped to No. 2 with $16.5 million, lifting its total to $84.8 million.

“This Is It” captures Jackson in behind-the-scenes performances in the weeks before his death last June, as he rehearsed his biggest hits for the London shows.

“This Is It” originally was scheduled for a theatrical run of only two weeks. The studio has extended it a few more weeks domestically, leaving it in theaters through Thanksgiving weekend, one of the year’s busiest moviegoing times.

VIBE.com reports that Sony will move forward with the third installment in their billion dollar franchise Men In Black 3. The big question is whether Will Smith is going to be cashing in on another extraterrestrial check. No word yet on Will’s involvement, but he  better make up his mind fast. The script is being written by Ethan Cohen who wrote Tropic Thunder–we wouldn’t want Robert Downey Jr. swiping Big Willie’s spot.

The King of Pop is about to become a movie star.

The judge hearing the execution of Michael Jackson’s estate got the chance to play studio exec today, effectively greenlighting This Is It by signing off on a deal allowing Columbia Pictures to turn AEG’s footage of the singer’s comeback rehearsals (and, as it happens, final days) into a feature-length film.

The film, for which Columbia wasted no time setting the Thrillerific release date of Oct. 30, was approved after “very aggressive” negotiations.

Katherine Jackson and the attorneys for the estate, John McClain and John Branca, agreed to the deal on Friday. Per the terms, Columbia will pony up $60 million for rights to the footage of his London prep work.

To sweeten the pot, AEG promised that 90 percent of the film’s profits would be funneled back into the estate.
