Thursday, January 28th, 2010

American Idol Season 8 had “Bikini Girl.” This year, talent show fans were treated to the vocal stylings of “Barney Girl,” a former child star with a whip!

Dallas native Erica Rhodes starred on the children’s television classic Barney & Friends in the early ’90s. Now a 23-year-old grad student, it looks like Erica’s been working overtime to get rid of the “Loser Stick” that can come with being an ex-Barney kid later in life. You haven’t heard Barney’s signature song, “I Love You,” until you’ve heard it from a morbid girl clad in black leather.

The 52nd Annual GRAMMY AWARDS, scheduled for THE STAPLES CENTER in LOS ANGELES on JANUARY 10, 2010 is set up for a replay of the infamous KANYE WEST interruption — as both BEYONCE and TAYLOR SWIFT are likely to be onstage at the event after scoring numerous nominations last night.

“Don’t worry, TAYLOR. KANYE WEST is not here,” quipped SMOKEY ROBINSON as he announced one category during the live GRAMMY nomination telecast from LOS ANGELES, which televised just 7 of the 109 categories.

Like last year, BEYONCE, who gathered 10 nominations, and TAYLOR SWIFT, nominated in 8 received the most attention. KANYE WEST was nominated for 6 awards, all for his collaborations with other artists.

LADY GAGA’s single “Poker Face” and album “The Fame” scored her five nominations.

THE BLACK EYED PEAS performed during the show, and earned six nominations, including a record of the year nomination for their hit “I Gotta Feeling.” “With the recession and this environment, it really felt like people needed a pick-me-up and kind of an escape to feel good,” FERGIE said about the song.

KINGS OF LEON were given four nominations this year thanks to last year’s “Only By The Night” album. The single “Use Somebody” is up for both song of the year and record of the year. The same album that gave them three nominations last year, one of which they won. “It’s good to have a record people can tolerate for that long,” drummer NATHAN FOLLOWILL said.

The five nominees for best new artist include THE ZAC BROWN BAND, KERI HILSON, MGMT, SILVERSUN PICKUPS and THE TING TINGS.

A complete list of nominees is available at www.grammy.com.
